What Should I Look for When Choosing a Dentist?

In this video, Dr. Robert Ellis shares his philosophy on dentistry, emphasizing empathy, honesty, and always putting patients’ best interests first.

I believe the most important quality in dentistry is empathy: empathy for what patients are experiencing with their oral health, empathy for the costs involved, and empathy for the fact that people have to balance dental care with all of life’s other expenses. That’s why we work hard to be flexible and help patients manage treatment with payment plans that fit their situation.

Equally important is honesty. Unfortunately, overtreatment has become more common in dentistry, with procedures being done for the benefit of the practice rather than the patient. At West Wind Dental, we have never operated that way. For the past 24 years, our priority has always been what’s best for the patient, not the bottom line.

If it comes down to choosing between fixing a tooth or taking your family on a cruise, I’ll always encourage you to take the trip. The tooth can be fixed later, but family moments matter most.
