How Long Do Dental Crowns Typically Last?

In this video, John Barnes, our lab tech, explains how long dental crowns typically last, what insurance covers, and how good habits can extend their lifespan.

A dental crown typically lasts anywhere from 5 to 10 years, although many last much longer. I even have one of my own that’s over 20 years old. In our office, we guarantee crowns for five years, which is also the standard among most dentists. If something happens before that time, we do our best to help the patient.

Insurance companies generally allow for crown replacement every seven years (it used to be five), which is a good guideline. Ultimately, how long a crown lasts depends on your oral hygiene and habits. Regular brushing, flossing, and mindful eating all play a big role in extending the life of your crown.
