Sticky taffy. Crunchy nuts and seeds. Chewy steak and ribs. What do all these things have in common? If you wear dentures, you know the answer: you’re not supposed to eat them. That’s a big problem if you’re passionate about chow time like we are. If you’re a foodie who struggles with missing teeth, there’s a way to get back to eating the foods you love. At West Wind Dental, we offer an advanced denture alternative called Fix-on-Six that will get you back to eating your favorites in no time.

This innovative implant denture solution secures an entire row of teeth to mini dental implants. Since we anchor the implants in your jawbone, you’ll regain the biting and chewing power needed to enjoy meals again! That means expanding your diet to include all sorts of chewy, crispy, or crunchy favorites. With Fix-on-Six implant dentures, you can rediscover the joy of eating and experience the full range of flavors you love!

Why Conventional Dentures Get in the Way of a Good Meal

Traditional dentures were once considered the best way to replace your teeth. But if you know anything about how conventional dentures work, it’s easy to see why that’s no longer the case! Even though they replace missing rows of teeth, you’ll still face many restrictions on your diet.

Part of the reason you can’t eat your favorite foods and snacks with conventional dentures is that they weaken your bite. They’re made out of acrylic, which can only handle so much pressure. And biting from the front is also limited, so eating corn from the cob or baby back ribs is an uphill battle. Instead of enjoying a variety of textures and flavors in your diet, you’ll have to stick to softer or mashed foods.

Plus, since dentures don’t replace your tooth roots, they don’t stimulate the jawbone. Over time, the jawbone begins to shrink, which not only reduces your bite strength but also affects how well your dentures fit—even if they were once a perfect match.

Once your jaw shape changes, your dentures will be prone to slipping, sliding, and maybe even falling out while you’re talking and eating!

And worst of all for the foodie in you, traditional dentures affect taste! You might not realize it, but your upper palate (the roof of your mouth) has taste buds. So, if you wear an upper denture that covers your palate, flavors can taste blander.

Fortunately, traditional dentures aren’t the only way forward! Fix-on-Six has transformed our patients’ lives. It allows us to restore your smile with more natural results. Because this system feels and functions more like real teeth, you can eat what you want again!

The Fix-on-Six Implant Denture Process

Ready to secure your seat at the dinner table again with semi-permanent dentures? Here’s what the Fix-on-Six® process looks like:

First, Dr. Ellis will examine your smile and bone structure, taking detailed images to plan your treatment. This step allows him to determine exactly how many mini implants you’ll need to support the roundhouse bridge. Most patients need 6-10 mini implants.

To place your implants, he will first administer local anesthesia or sedation. Then, he will make small holes in your gums to gently secure the mini dental implants in the jawbone. It’s an efficient and minimally invasive process. Once the implants are secured, he’ll attach a temporary set of teeth while you wait for your permanent, custom bridge to be made at the dental lab. When it’s ready, Dr. Ellis will cement your permanent teeth into place. You’ll brush the bridge like regular teeth and use a Waterpik for hard-to-reach areas. When you come in for follow-up appointments, Dr. Ellis will remove the bridge for deeper cleaning.

Immediately after your dental implant procedure, you’ll have some dietary limitations until discomfort subsides. For the next few weeks, stick to a softer diet and gradually introduce more variety.

But once your mouth heals, you won’t have any food restrictions. You’ll be back to eating all the tastiest, most flavorful foods with your beautiful new smile!
