You deserve to let loose every now and again. But if you struggle with loose dentures, you might be anxious about the thought of them popping out while you’re enjoying a meal with friends. If you’re tired of worrying that your dentures will cause an embarrassing moment by slipping and falling out of your mouth while you’re eating, speaking, laughing, or coughing, dental implants might be just what you’re looking for!
Implant-supported dentures attach to dental implants at the top or bottom of your mouth, locking your denture into place and restoring your bite force. If loose dentures are making it harder for you to let your hair down, consider securing your bite with implant-supported options!
Why You Have Loose Dentures

Your dentures were custom-made for your unique smile. They’re supposed to fit like a glove. So why are they loose?
Dentures loosen and fit worse over time due to changes in your bone structure. While you might not realize it, your jaw depends on the healthy stress from chewing to stay healthy. Just like other bones in your body, your jawbone naturally goes through cycles of removing old bone (resorption) and strengthening existing bone (ossification).
The roots of your teeth are embedded in your jaw, providing the force you need to chew effectively. When you chew, you’re signalling to your brain to maintain a strong jaw, fostering bone tissue regeneration through ossification. When you lose teeth, your jaw misses out on these signals and experiences a higher rate of resorption. As a result, you’ll notice that your dentures fit looser over time.
When traditional dentures don’t fit quite right, you probably start to use an adhesive to hold them in place. While this provides some security, adhesives are often messy and don’t offer a particularly strong grip. And although they provide some additional hold, you can’t bite down or chew with the bite pressure of normal teeth.
Thankfully, anchoring dentures with mini dental implants restores strength to your bite. Because mini dental implants are secured directly into the bone, they provide stability and allow for stronger chewing. Like natural tooth roots, implants apply healthy pressure to the jawbone as you eat, helping to prevent bone resorption in the jaw.
How Dental Implants Secure Loose Dentures
You shouldn’t have to deal with your teeth feeling loose and unpredictable. Instead of relying on messy adhesives to secure ill-fitting prosthetics, mini implants can stabilize your denture. They allow you to chew with increased strength and a more reliable bite than before. And you’ll be able to confidently speak, laugh, and smile without worrying that your false teeth will slip or fall out.
At West Wind Dental, we offer multiple implant denture solutions. One of the most accessible implant-supported denture solutions is removable snap-in dentures. These dentures anchor onto 4-8 mini dental implants on the top or bottom of your mouth. Simply snap the denture in and out of your mouth every morning and night to clean it regularly.
With this solution, Dr. Robert Ellis has the option to convert existing regular dentures into an implant denture, provided the denture is in good shape. At our office, we can add housings to the underside of your existing denture to make space for O-rings. These are small rubber components that snap onto the rounded tops of your implants, keeping your denture securely in place. We can do this on the same day you receive your mini dental implant. The only caveat is that if your denture is made of older acrylic, it might not hold up to this increased pressure over time.
We also offer other types of implant dentures, including a semi-removable implant bridge and a permanent implant denture. These options have the added advantage of looking and feeling closer to natural teeth. However, they can be more expensive. When you come in for a free consultation, Dr. Ellis can discuss all of our office’s implant denture options with you.

Factors such as bone loss and weak adhesive grip contribute to loose dentures, but mini dental implants are the standout solution for keeping them in place. We can often convert an existing denture to a snap-in denture, so you’re not wasting your previous investment in your smile. But if you want a more premium option, we provide roundhouse bridges, too!
If you want to let loose and speak, smile, and laugh with confidence, it’s time to put loose dentures in their place with a modern substitute: implant dentures.
