What Is the Best Replacement for One Missing Tooth?

In this video, Dr. Robert Ellis explains how single-tooth implants are placed, why one-piece implants are his go-to choice, and the steps he takes to ensure stability during healing.

Single-tooth implants are the most common procedure we do (on average, four to five each week). Many are immediate placements, which are usually very straightforward. We have several types of one-piece implants available, and while we still keep traditional implants in our toolkit, we haven’t needed to place one in years. I truly believe one-piece implants are the future of dentistry.

When we place an implant right after an extraction, we use a technique called splinting. This means placing a small cover that wedges between the neighboring teeth, holding the implant securely in place. Stability is important, because even tiny movements can interfere with the bone attaching to the implant. Splinting helps ensure the implant stays completely stable during healing.

After placement, we also recommend chewing on the opposite side of your mouth and sticking to softer foods for the first four weeks to give the implant the best chance to integrate successfully.

One-Piece Dental Implants: Why Nature’s Design Still Wins [Video Explainer]

If you are exploring tooth replacement, [...]
