What Is the Process for Getting Implant Dentures?

In this video, Dr. Robert Ellis outlines the step-by-step process for replacing teeth with implants, highlighting the options patients can choose from depending on their goals and budget.

From start to finish, the process of getting a denture or a fixed roundhouse follows a similar path.

It begins with a free consultation, which includes a 3D cone beam scan. This allows us to evaluate your bone, plan where the implants will go, and decide which type of restoration best fits your needs.

Option 1: Acrylic Denture (Economical & Faster)

On the day we extract your teeth, we can place the implants and provide you with an acrylic temporary denture. If you already have an existing denture, we can often retrofit it by marking where the implants are, hollowing those areas, and inserting micro housings with O-rings. The denture then snaps securely into place, and you leave with it stabilized the same day. We’ll ask you to keep it in for 2–3 weeks initially while we monitor your healing weekly. Over time, you’ll transition to taking it out yourself for cleaning once the implants are stable.

Option 2: Semi-Permanent Porcelain Denture

A step up in durability and aesthetics, this option uses a porcelain prosthetic. Because it is custom-made by the lab, it takes more time and is more expensive than acrylic. While you heal, you’ll wear a temporary acrylic denture for 4–8 weeks. Once healing is complete, we fit the porcelain denture, which usually takes 10–12 days to fabricate.

Option 3: Fixed Ceramic Roundhouse (Most Permanent)

This option is the most natural-looking and long-lasting. Similar to the porcelain denture, you’ll wear a temporary while your implants heal for 6–8 weeks. After healing, we transition you into a full ceramic roundhouse bridge. It may require one or two try-ins to perfect your bite and appearance, but once finalized, it is permanently secured and functions just like natural teeth.
