Is Dental Implant Surgery Painful?

Many patients ask about postoperative pain. The truth is, everyone tolerates pain differently. Some handle it well, others don’t. Personally, I don’t like pain myself, so we do everything we can to make recovery as comfortable as possible.

We’re very careful during extractions and implant placement, and one of the biggest advances we use is an injectable steroid called dexamethasone. It reduces inflammation after extractions, implants, root canals, and even crown preparations. Since introducing it about six months ago, it’s been a game changer. Patients consistently tell me, “That didn’t hurt nearly as much as I expected.”

Another reason recovery is easier is because mini dental implants require a much smaller opening in the bone compared to traditional implants. A smaller hole means less trauma, less pain, and faster healing.
