How Long Does It Take to Heal After Getting Dental Implants?

In this video, Dr. Robert Ellis compares healing times for traditional implants and mini implants, and explains why minis usually mean faster recovery with less discomfort.

Healing time after implant placement depends on the type of implant. Traditional implants usually take longer (about 4 to 6 months) to fully integrate with the bone. They also involve a two-stage process, where the implant is uncovered later and a connector is added before the final crown can be placed.

Mini dental implants, or one-piece implants, heal much faster. If it’s not an immediate placement, healing usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. For immediate placements, it may take 6 to 8 weeks to allow the extraction site to fully close around the implant.

Patients also tend to experience much less pain and discomfort with mini implants compared to traditional ones. Most notice only mild soreness for a day or two, which quickly subsides.
