What Procedures Are Included in Full-Mouth Reconstruction?

In this video, Dr. Robert Ellis explains what full-mouth reconstruction can mean for different patients, from restoring natural teeth to exploring implant-supported options.

Full-mouth reconstruction can have different meanings depending on your specific situation.

For patients who still have their natural teeth, it often involves rebuilding worn-down teeth with crowns, replacing old fillings, and restoring proper bite height (vertical dimension). This not only improves function but can also relieve problems like mouth sores at the corners and restore a fuller smile. If teeth are missing, implants may also be part of the plan.

For patients who need full extractions, options range from:

  1. Tissue-borne dentures (traditional removable dentures).
  2. Implant-supported removable dentures are more stable and secure.
  3. Hybrid semi-permanent dentures made of porcelain, which last much longer than acrylic dentures (often a lifetime, compared to 7–10 years).
  4. Permanent full-mouth implants with a ceramic roundhouse bridge, which is fixed in place and cared for with normal brushing and a water flosser.

All of these are excellent solutions. It simply depends on your needs, goals, and the outcome you’re looking for.
