Dental Crowns vs. Veneers: Which Is Better?

In this video, Dr. Robert Ellis explains when veneers work well, when crowns are the better choice, and how his team ensures restorations blend naturally with your smile.

Veneers are thin coverings placed on the front surface of a tooth to improve its appearance when you smile. They can be very effective, but they aren’t always the best choice. For example, if a tooth already has several fillings, a veneer may not be ideal since it bonds best to solid tooth structure, not filling material. In these cases, a crown is often a better option because it covers the entire tooth, strengthens it, and protects it from future decay at the margins.

Crowns also allow us to correct minor twists or turns in teeth more effectively than veneers. Each patient’s situation is unique, so we carefully evaluate what will provide the best, longest-lasting results. Matching a single crown to your natural teeth can be challenging, but we work closely with our lab to get it right. Our lab technician, who has partnered with our office for 40-plus years, even comes in personally to take custom shades, ensuring a seamless, natural look.
